Unwanted Visitors - Part One
A knock at the door brought Viviana out of the kitchen. She thought it was strange. When was the last time someone chose knocking over just barging in? But she didn’t question it as she brushed past Zach and Viola, and into the foyer. Through the windows on either side of the door, she noted that it was dark outside. And she also noted the two hooded figures standing out there.
It took her a total of four seconds to identify the first one as Jace. Even though the hood hid his face, and the robe stretched all the way down to his feet, she knew it was him. Which had to make the smaller figure next to him Isis. Her hand hesitated on the nob for a moment, and her eyes looked toward the stairs. Surely this wouldn’t end well. Not with Isis and Dominique in the same house. But she opened the door nonetheless.
She arched an eyebrow as they dropped their hoods. Yes, Jace was there, looking down at her with a smirk. And beside him was a small girl with dark hair and amber eyes. They eyes were sort of a confirmation for Viviana because even though Gabriel spoke of Isis very little, when he did he always mentioned her golden eyes. “Now,” she said, making sure they didn’t miss the dryness in her voice, “to what do I owe this pleasure?”
She noticed that Jace opened his mouth to speak, but Isis cut him off. “I brought something for Gabriel. I thought that it might help him through this transition.”
“Interesting,” she drawled. Her eyes fell to Isis hand where she held what looked like a small mirror. She could only see the back, but from what she could tell, it was beautiful; golden, with flowers etched onto the back. Taking a step back, she motioned for them to enter. “I’ll take you to him.” She didn’t wait for an answer, she just turned on her heals and began walking toward the stairs.
Jace immediately fell into step beside her. Lowering his voice, he asked, “is the witch with him?”
She turned to him slightly. “She’s always with him.” And she said nothing else on the subject. Jace fell back with Isis, and the three of them quickly made their way toward Gabriel and Dominique’s room. She glanced back at them once, noticing Isis’ grim expression, and Jace’s ever-present smirk. Scowling, she turned her attention back in front of her. Once they reached the room, she knocked tentatively.
And Dominique’s cold expression when she opened the door was one both expected and surprising. She never thought before that the little witch had that much hatred in her. But she was proved wrong because she was standing there now, looking past Viviana and at Isis with so much cruelty that Viviana wouldn’t be surprised if the archangel combusted into flames right there. “What?” She snapped.
“Isis has something for Gabriel.” Viviana explained. “And she would like to give it to him.”
Dominique didn’t miss a beat. Her eyes searched Isis and she held out her hand. “I’ll give it to him.”
Isis clutched the mirror to her chest. “I apologize for any inconvenience that my presence has caused, but it is of utmost importance that I give it to him.”
Dominique made a sound in the back of her throat that sounded suspiciously like a growl, but she moved out of the way. “Make it quick.” She pronounced each syllable threateningly, as if she were saying that if Isis didn’t hurry, she would rip her heart out. And that made Viviana smile cruelly as she led the way into the bedroom.
